Collision Between Two Steam p ers.

(Per Press Association.) Sydney. Jan. 5. A serious collision took place in the Newcastle harbour between the steamers Dovedale (1821 tons) and the Indianopolia (2226 tons) both under charter to the Adelaide Shipping Company. The Dovedale, entering the berth, struck the Indianopolis, which was lying at the dyke loading cattle. The tremendous force stove in a number of plates abreast the forward hatch. The Dovedale's srem was bent, and she had eight plates damaged. In swinging round after the impact the Dovedale struck the wharf stern first smashing her propellor blade, bursting the pipes supplying the hydraulic cranes, and stopping the loading operations of the whole of the cranes for two hours. The Indianopolis £i°charged her cattle and left for Sydney to dock. The damage of the vessel, wjiarf, and cranes, is estimated at several thousand pounds.
