Mr Cecil Rhodes

The enthusiasm displayed at the ra oeption of Cecil Rhodes on his return t< Capetown from Griqualand has given rise to a strong feeling of resentment in the Transvaal. London, Jan. 4. The Times says that Rhodes has been guilty of bad taste. Pretoria, Jan. 4. Judge Jerrison, who acted as chiei spokesman on a deputation of the leading residents of Pretoria, who waited on President Kruger with reference to the flattering reception accorded Mr Cecil Rhodes on his return to Capetown, condemned the Cape people for petting the chief criminal of Jamieson's Transvaal raid. While claiming to value Transvaal's friendrhip, such action, the judge said, was an insult to the Transvaal Republic and was ominous of the future President Kruger, who appeared deeply moved during the delivery of the speech remained silent.
