Attention is directed to an advertise ment of tbe Salvation Army in which they state their intention to meet every Tuesday in the Birmingham Town Hall. A general meeting of members of the , Feilding Bowling Club will be held tomorrow evening in Mr Bray's office at 8 o'clock. We regret to bave to record the death, at tbe early ape of 17 years, of James Mayo, only son of Mr James Fraser, of Colyton, after a short illness of three W6fiks On Christmas eve tbe Feilding Brass Band played a number of Christmas tones in the town, while tbe Salvation Army sang and played a number of carols. A young man was knocked down and robbed of his watch and chain in Wel lington on Christmas eve by three men. He was very much knocked about, his face being severely cut in several places. During the very hot weather tbe consumption of spirits of any kind should be avoided. An excellent substitute leiay be found in claret which is a non-intoxicant and remarkably wholesome. — The Indian. The usual Christmas services were conducted in St. John's Church, the Wesleyan Church, and tbe Primitive Methodist Church on Christmas Dry. Special services were also conducted in the various churches yesterday (Sunday). Mrs Nankivell died somewhat suddenly at the residence of her son in law, Mr W. Edwards, Denbigh street, at '2 j o'clock on Christmas morning, although she bad been ailing for some months. She was 53 years of age. Mr L. E. Reade, solicitor, acting for Mr W. T. Watts, gives notice tbat at the next meeting of the Licensing Bench he will apply for a transfer of tlie license of tbe Manchester Hotel from W. T. Watts to David P. Barrett, the appointee of the former. A pleasing surprise was accorded to the choirmaster of the Presbyterian Chnrcb, Mr George Bartholomew, on Christmas eve. The choir visited his bouse at 9 o'clock and after iudulging iv some carol singing presented him with a handsome writing case and set suitably engraved. Mr Stevens made the presentation atad Mr Bartholomew suitably acknowledged it. A man, whose name we have been unable to ascertain, was arrested at Danevirke on Tuesday night, oa a charge of attempting to rob the Bank of New Zealand there. From information received, Constable Drake shadowed the man, who was seen to enter tbe bank, and ns he came out he was promptly arrested. He had not succeeded in stealing anything. A large sheath knife was found in bis possession. — Waipawa Mail. A yonng man named David Robbie, fourth son of Mr James Robbie, of Bunnythorpe, died at Mr R. W. Brown's residence, Gleugarnock, Colyton, on tbe 25th instant, Christmas Day, at the early age of 23 years. Mr Robbie had been in the employ of Mr Brown for the past five years and bis early death, after an illness of only six days from an attack of inflammation of tbe bowels, is much regretted by the numerous friends of tbe deceased and his family. His mortal remains were interred in the Bunnythorpe cemetery yesterday, a very large number of settlers joining in the mournful procession. The Rev. W. Thomson, of Palmerston, conducted an impressive burial service at the graveside, Mr R. W. Brown having conducted the first portion prior to the procession being formed at bis residence. To-morrow we will publish Mr Sam. Daw's altered time table for bis royal ' mail line of coaches to Ruabine, MiDaw has again secured the contract for carrying the mails between Fowlers and Ruabine, and also from Feilding to Fowlers, for the next term, commencing January lst, and will now run bis coaches right through from Feilding to Ruahine daily, commencing from Feilding at 8.15 a.m., and arriving at Rnabiue at 6 p.m., passing through tbe townships of Cheltenham, Kiwitea, Fowlers, Peep-o'-Day, Mangarimn, Pemberton, and Rangis wahia. A daily communication between these places will be a great convenience to the settlers, and others, and Mr Daw deserves the highest credit for bis enterprise, and we bave not the slightest doubt be will receive tbe settlers' hearty support in bis undertaking. Tbis line also connects with tbe Apiti coach. A pretty wedding was celebrated in St Johns Church, Feilding, on Christmas Day, the contracting parties being Walter Henry Rutherford, tbe second son of Mr Henry Rutherford, of Beaconsfield, and Jes.ia Fergusson Mclnnes, niece of Mc Peter Thomson, of Feildmg. The nuptial ceremony was conducted by tbe Rev. A. S. Innes Jones in the presence of a number of relatives and friends of tbe contracting parties. The bride, who was tastefully dressed in a pearl grey silk dress with the orthodox veil and orange blossoms and carried a bridal bouquet, was attended by tbe Misses Amelia Newman and Minnie Rutherford as bridesmaids, both of whom were dressed in pretty silver grey lustre dresses and picture bats, and wore handsome gold brooches, the gift of the bridegroom, wbo was attended by Mr A. McDougall, as best man, and Mr J. Harrison. After the ceremony a little girl preceded the bride from tbe altar strewing Sowers in ber pathway, and the party proceeded to Mr Thomson's residence where* sumptuous wedding breakfast was partaken of by the guests to the number of about sixty, tbe tables being laid in tha workshop wbich was prettily decorated for tha occasion with ferns, evergreens, flowers, etc, The hpalth of the bride and bridegroom was proposed by Mr H. Rutherford and duly honored, and Mr and Sirs Thomson 'a health was proposed by Mr W. T. Oakley, Mr Thompson suitably responding. After tbe wedding party had given Mr and Mrs Rutherford a hearty send-off tbey returned to Mr Thomson's residence to spend the evening, where one and all spent a happy time, a dance being held in the evening iv tbe workshop. The music was supi plied by Mr and Miss Stewart (of Colyv ton) on the violin and piano.
