An Auckland Scandal.

An incident which is exciting considerable interest in Auckland is a case in which a Mr George South was charged with drunkenness by the police, but the case failed, the S.M. remarking that Mr South left tbe Court without a stain on his character, the charg" being groundless. In tbe evidence for the defence it transpired that Mr South had fonnd a little child in the street whom be took to the police station and was there roughly treated by the police and eventually charged with the offence. The outcome ot the affair is that the Minister of Justice has temporarily suspended, pending further investigation, Sergts. Gamble and McMahon, Acting Detective Quirke, Constable Clarke (watch-house keeper', and Constable McCarthy.
