Bush Fires

(Per Press Association.) Stratford, Dec. 17. Bush fires, which have been prevailing during the late spell of dry weather assumed dangerous proportions yesterday, owing to the strong northerly wind. In several cases dwellings narrowly escaped being burned andia one case a two-storied building of ten rooms the residence of Mr E. Q. Ailwortb, tbe editor of the Egcaoat Settler, situated in the suburbs of Stratford on the East road was only saved by efforts of the Stratford Firs Brigade, which assisted by a number of townsman, fought the fire for nearly four hours, the outbuildings being several times on fire. Heavy rain fell later, and all danger is now averted. The rain is a great relief to many settlers.
