Wanganui Education Board.
Birmingham — Agreed to change the name of the school to Kimbolton, and grant £4 for road. High School, Palmerston — From Col-lege-street Committee, asking what assistance the Board is prepared to give to establishment of a class.— Held over. Upper Pohangina — On the motion of Mr Pirani, it was decided that the secretary write to Mr Fraser, asking that a plan of the school be sent as soon as possible, and when that is received, the secretary communicate with the Minister of Lands, asking that the land be reserved as a school site. Utiku— From Mr J. P. Aldridge and others re appointing a teacher to a school they had recontly erected, which would be attended by 29 children. — Agreed to send a teacher and supply furniture. Repairs at Upper Taonni and Bull were referred to the carpenter. Taikorea— Examination deferred for two months. Rongotea— Application for grant for artesian well np to £10 passed, on the principal of " no water no pay." It was decided to apply to the Minister of Education for a grant towards the technical school building fund. Salisbury— On the motion of Mr Lothbridge, it was resolved to apply to Government for a grant of of £300 towards a school and residence in the Salisbury Block, Pohangina. Truant Inspector— Mr Easther wrote, asking that the Board should pay his salary as Truant Inspector, as the present system was unsatisfactory. — It was decided that the request could not be complied with owing to the fact that the School Attendance Act provided only for the payment of fines to School Committees. Teachers' Classes— lt was decided on the motion of Mr Pirani, that the Board should pay half the cost of tuition of all pupil-teachers, and that in future fees be paid direct to the Board, pupU-» teachers to be allowed to give orders on their salaries for fees, which will be deducted at end of quarter instead of in advance. It was decided to close the Board's offices from 34th December to 14th January and tUo Board meet on 18th January, > Taonui— The additions to the Taoimi school were referred to Inspector Bindon and the Board's carpenter, with power to have them carried out.
