Feilding School Committee.

o ' The ordinary monthly meeting of the ' Feilding State School Committee was ' held last evening. Present— Messrs W. Carthew (chairman), Jas. Wood, W. Spence, R. J. Thompson, and C. Bray, ; junr. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was received from Messrs Hatrick and Co. with reference to picnic fares on the Wanganni river ; from the Wanganai Education Board and Railway Department with reference to school excursion railway fares. Mr J. S. Milson wrote asking the committee to purchase a portion of the books required for school prizes from him. A letter was received from Mr H. Sanson, enclosing a letter from the secretary of the Wanganui Education Board, with reference to tbe additions to the school, and stating the plans would be forwarded in a few days. The headmaster's report was read, showing the attendance for the past month to havo been 330. Accounts amounting to £2 4s 6d were passed for payment. Mr F. Thompson wrote complaining that bis boy had been " put back " from Standard IV to Standard 111. Mr Thompson waited on tbe committee in support of his letter, and requested that his boy should be put into Standard IV. The headmaster, Mr Hill, in reply to Mr Thompson's complaint, stated that tbe boy was very irregular in bis attend* ance, and that he was put back at the request of tbe teacher ; but before doing co be bad given the matter every con* eideration and found the bey's work was such as to justify him ib .fee steps taken, He bad offered Mrs Thompson, when she waited on him on the matter, that if she wonld send the boy to school, he (Mr Hill) would examine bun, and if it was possible for him to put the boy up he would do so, but since then the boy had not attended school. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Bray, seconded by Mr R. J. Thompson, That Mr F. Thompson be informed tbat the committee, while sympathising with him in tbe matter, do not feel justified in taking any eteps likely to interfere with tbe discipline of the school, and that Mr Thompson accept th© offer of Mr Hill. Resolved, That Messrs Wood and Thompson be a visiting committee for the ensuing month. The committee theß adjourned.
