Manchester Road Board.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Saturday last. Present— Messrs F. Y. Lethbridge (chairman), 6. Wheeler, H. J. Booth, D. Thomas, W. 3. Fearce. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows : — From Lands and Survey Department stating that no opportunity had yet arisen for considering the resolution of the itoard with reference to the Lower Gorge bridge. From J. Whittaker, asking permission to take eotne gravel from a bank on Valley road.— Application left with Mr Pearce to deal with. From Fitzherbert Eoad Board stating they were willing to contribute .£2O for making road through Mr Cotter's, providing the Manchester Road Board coo* tri bated a like amount. —Agreed to. From Treasnry, provisionally approvmg of loan of £150 for widening Bunnythorpe road. From Rangitikei County Council, for*' warding statement ot expenditure on Onepuhi bridge to November 25th amounting to £229 6s 8d( this Board's share being £76 6s lid ; also, stating that an estimated amount of £900 was required to complete the works and asking this Board to make proyision for its share of further payment. From G. S. Bumble (chairman) and J. H. Vincent (secretary) enclosing resolutions passed at a meeting of ratepayers of Nos. 5 and 6 wards, held in Ashurat on November 14th, requesting further representation on the Board for those wards. Mr Cotter waited on the Board and pointed out that he had been given permission to erect gates across the road through his property under the Koad Board's Act, 1894, whereaß it should have been under the Public Works Act, and he asked to have the permit amended. Mr Pearce reported that a number of settlers desired that the work of lowering the grade on Proctor's catting, Bannythorpe, should be left over for the present and that tenders be called to be in by the February meeting of the Board. This was agreed to by the Board. Resolved, That as the tender of B. ,Lyon and Son for forming Wyndham street, Ashurst, is above the engineer's estimate the tender be not accepted. Proposed by Mr Boctb, seconded by Mr Letbbridge, That Wardens Pearce and Thomas be a committee to define boundaries for making three wards within the boundaries of Nos 5 and 6 wards. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Booth, That permission be granted to Mr Cotter to erect the gates across the two public roads, asked for in his letter of the 27th ult., for a period of twelve months. Such gates to be properly hung in convenient places, and fitted with convenient fastenings, to the satisfaction of the Board's Engineer, or any other person appointed,— Carried. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Booth, That on and after January lltb. 1897, that portion of Wilson's line opposite Mr Shannon's be temporarily closed to allow the contractor to complete the grading of the bill. .That this be advertised for a week beforehand to reduce the inconvenience to a minimum. — Carried. Resolved, That the necessary steps be taken to raise a further loan for the com pic ton of repairs to Onepuhi bridge. Accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
