The Glenbrook Mystery.
(Per Press Association^. Sydney, Nov. 30. Glenbrook, a small township on the Blue Mountains, has been the centre of two cases of seusational disappearance, | which in both cases poiut to murder. J Sotnc short time ago an advertisement appeared in the Sydney newspapers seeking for a man with capital to join in a prospecting venture. A retired sea captaiu named Wcller replied and came to terms with the advertiser, and accompanied him to Glenbrook. Wcller then disappeared, but certain articles known to have belonged to him have been found partially burnt. This discovery has led to tbe frisnds of another Sydney resident who was missing, placing the matter in the hands of tbe police The last mentioned missing man had also replied to the advertisement and went to Glenbrook to meet the advertiser. Later. The mystery is deepening. A third man named Leslie is now reported to be missing. Tbe Government offered a reward of A'loo for a clue. The police are scouring the mountains in the endeavor to find the remains of the missing men. During a search of a disused shaft Detective McLean had a thrilling experience. Two men lowered him and when he encountered a large snake at the bottom they were unable to haul him up. The detective passed a bad five minutes before extra help was secured, and he was hauled safely to the top. Preston is the name of the second missing man. He was a student of mineralogy at Sydney University. Portions of his clothes have been found at Liudon and tbe police theory is that Weller was made away with at Glenbrook and Preston at Linden. The country round about is very wild. A man uamed Harwood or Butler is '• wanted" in connection with the affair. A similar advertisement was inserted in the Newcastle papers, but replies were never called tor.
