ELECTIONS FIXED FOR DECEMBER 4th.
I Per Prpss Association, i Wellington, This Day. Writs for the the general election were issued today. Friday, the 4th December, bag been fixed as the date of the General Election. Writs are returnable on or before the following Friday. A gem from the Picton Press : — " Mr Mills Btutters too naujph for me," said a lady elector after hearing Mr Buick last week. " He's something like a speaker now, ain't he ? " Aint he a good looking young man, too ?" " I can't understand a working man being a Conaervatiye," said a Petone Liberal at Mr Hi6lop's meeting the other night, and he asked, " Whut makes a working man a Conservative ? " "Intelli* I gence!" promptly replied the candidate, and the Liberal has been pondering over this concise definition ever since and is just beginning to see the hang of it. Mr Scobie Mackenzie is responsible for the following :— " I am an admirer of ability wherever I see it, and there can be no question that Mr Seddon is an extremely clever fellow. ... I think it mast be admitted that the Government has been what is called in America a • live ' Government. They have been active, pushing, resourceful, and with plenty of what is called initiative. They have broken through old conventionalities — not always wisely, perhaps, but they have at least displayed courage and resource over it ; not ail of them, but the leaders. These are qualities to admire. When that is said, not very much more can be said in praise " Mr Lethbridge's Committee will meet this evening at 7.30. Mr R- C. Brace, a candidate for the Manawatu seat, will address the electors at Awahuri to morrow night. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, Nov. 19. Mr Menteath, one of the Opposition candidates, addressed a fair meeting at the Opera House to night. He received a vote of thanks. Auckland. Nov. 19. S. Vaile, Independent Liberal for Parnell, and Arthur Prosser, Labor candidate for the City, addressed the electors and received a vote of thanks. The Hon Tbos.
