Sooth* Wod was couimt-ucrd to-day in tine bright weather, with a sttffish breeze blowing. The matcb needs little de* •cription. The home team went in first nnd within an hour twelve were out for 21. On resuming after luncheon adjournment Boys had scored 5 when he was bowled by Eady. Watson was top scorer with 9. Eady took 7 wickets for 25 and Trumble 10 for 13. The Australians scored 187 in tbeir first iuninga— Kelly 36, Darling 31, Trott 24, Eady 21, Jones 21, McKibben (not out) 10, Hill 12, Graham 9, lredale 7, Trumble 3, Gregory 2, extras 2. The visitors did not require to extend themselves and took matters very easy. Trott, Darling and Kelly set the field Borne leather hunting, boundary and over the fence hits being frequent. Darling was caught in long field by a well judged catch by G. Purdue. Gregory was dismissed by a grand catch by Watson. Trott plajed a merry innings till caught in long field by Boys, making drives for 4, 5 and 6. . The sp p ctators were disappointed, the fielding being so weak that the Australians fairly played with it, the only one they were careful about being Robertson, (professional.) The match will be resumed tomorrow, and can scarcely go nvf=r two days. Chbistchurch, Nov. 18. Downes' place in the team to represent New Zealand against the Australians has been filled by Wilding.
