To Stand this Season in the Feuding and Ranoitikki Distbicts, The Thoroughbred Horse, HANDSOME JACK (Foaled 1890). HANDSOME JACK ia a six.yearold, Ptwatly- built bay horse, standing 15 hand? 2| inches high. As his name indicates, he i 9 a handsome horse, and so fashionably bred that he is well worthy the attention of breeders. The stoutest strains of the English and colonial thoroughbred blood is blended !in this horse's pedicree. It wouid appear almost unnecessary to refer further than to his tabulated pedigree under* mentioned, bat the family he has de scended from art: so rich m winning blood that the owner may be pardoned for just mentioning a few facts perhaps not gen« erally known, Handsome Jack is by St. Leger (the well-known winner-producing sire), whose stock have won in New Zealand since the season 1895 6, eighty.one races valued at £21,672. Radiant, who never raced, is by that stoutly-bred sire Robinson Crusoe, whose mares are so highly thought of by Australian breeders, and as Radiant is from Radiance, this makes the dam of Handsome Jack full sister to (hose fast horses Quadrant and Cruiser (sire of the Rangitikei bred Lorelei). Robinson Crusoe (sire of Radiant) is full brother to that stud gem Onyx (dam of Nordenfeldt), and Radiance (dam of Radiant) is by Fireworks (sire of The Mute, who is sire of the Grand National Steeplechase winner. Mutiny, and the Grand National Hurdle Race winner, Dummy, this year), while Sunshine (dam of Radiance 1, is also dam of Sunrise, a very successful stallion in New South Wales. A glance at St. Hippo's pedigree, who is considered by good jr.d^es to he oae of the best horses seen in New Zealand of late years, will show that Handsome Jack has really a better pedigree, as he shows the valuable strain of Maribyrnung blood, which is absent from St. Hippo's pedigree Both horses are closel? related on blood lines. 1 I Bird- c . „ - The catcher ? lrH ". vI « > Daren c : : £ Echidna f^ 0 " 0 " 1181 i y ,--; Miss Pratt 1 ~ £ Glen oe c - . _ ! 2 cJ: D v Sultan 1 h Pocahon- Trampoline^ O 2 Tedding-- Toj, >h stone"— !3 cnham Ele tress 2 S Ratan Buzzard O Daughter Daughter of Pi ton J - Daughter of Lisbeth * H Pantaloon CaitrrT >, hound dall - a ■£ „, Tou hstone 3 Phryne____ De oy - < £ Alice Moloch Nan y 1 5 H Haw ; „ . HANDSOME JACK'S full brother, Lustre, won the Dunedin Selling Race, 100 soys, altio the Dunedin Federal stakes of 200 soys, 6 furlongs, 7 0, in 1.18, beating Saracen, Bay Bell, Kulnine, Whakawatea, and Pique. Breeders must come to the conclusion, t^ter a perusal of the above particulars, at they are fortunate in having so ni ghly a bred yourg horse, and one so cl osely related to all the best and most valuable strains of blood to be found in Australasia. HANDSOME JACK will be limited to a number of mares. Thoroughbreds 5 guineas, and half breds at a reasonable reduction. Inspection of this son of St. Leger is invited.
