rFROM OUE OWN COBREdPONDENT.J : The Ohingaiti Jockey Club held a very important uud satisfactory meeting on Wednesday ni^ht in Mr Well's hall. Mr ' W. Hammond occupied the chair. Mr ' Geo. Buckley, the secretary, read the minutes of the previous meeting, which 3 were confirmed. Some discussion took ' place over au account standing from last ' year, which was left for the incoming 3 committee to deal with. Some twenty persons paid their half-guinea subs. Mr Connor proposed, and Mr Martin secon--1 dod, That Mr R Hammond be President. ' This was carried ncm con. The gentle- * men deputed at la.st meeting to see to the race course reported that Mr R. r Hammond could not allow the use of ' the adjoining paddock, but was willing for them to use the course another year. ' The committee considerd the course ■ would need draining, which would cost I about .£7. Mr Martin gave notice of s motion that he will move, at the next meeting,, that the Club be named " The Upper Rangitikei Club." Mr Summers * was re-elected treasurer amidst great * applause. Messrs Summers, Buckley, and Brookes were appointed a ground committee, with power to spend up to * A lO. The Secretary was instructed to 3 ascertain when the Huuterville Sports 6 are to be held, as cur race day is to be the following day. The next meeting is to be held in the same place on Monday 0 next, at 8 p.m. Messrs W. Hammond, j 3 J. Coyle, and R. Summers were elected '* a programme committee. With a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman the meeting closed. For the Ohingaiti riding in the county elections, Mr Hazelden polled six more votes than Mr J. Johnston. On receiving the result, Mr Johnston addressed his supporters from Messrs Wells and Hintze's door, thanking them for their II votes, showing the confidence they had in him. He said they bad a good man in Mr Hazeiden, but if they thought the up country districts bad not had fair ,t play iv having to travel so very far to ,f record their votes, and still had confidence in him, all they bad to do was c by a show of bands to determine him > whether to upset the election or not. D * A little forest of hands went np, no one dissenting. Mr Johnston then said, s " You will have another run for yonr ,f money very shortly." The grounds for II upsetting the election are that the „ polling was held on licensed property. r_ A meeting will be held at Mr Buckley's c bakehouse of Mr W. A. L. Bailey's supr porters, when important business will have to be discussed, prior to Mr Bailey giving his address on Saturday evening.
