The Political Campaign.
MR W. A. L. BAILEY AT MANGAWEKA. Mr Walter A. L. Bailey addressed a ! large and enthusiastic meeting at Mang- j aweka last night. A vote of thanks and confidence, with cheers, was given to the ; candidate. At a Liberal Convention a ballot was 1 taken for two Government casdidates for Wellington city with the following result : — George Fisher 156, Charles Wilson 148, E. J. LeGrove 127, H. J. Williams 111, W. McLean 88. The Wellington correspondent of the Auckland Herald states :— The retirement of Mr Duthie and Mr Bell from the contest for Wellington is regarded here as an unexpected difficulty, and a positive misfortune for the Opposition, who, however, sustain their courage by the knowledge that the Government party have similar, if not greater, difficulty, in finding suitable candidates. The prophets say that Robert is what is called in racing parlance a " moral," that Mr A. R. Atkinson will have second place, and Mr Mentieth a good third. The Liberal party say the result will b*> : Sir Robert Stout, Mr Fisher, aud Mr Hutchison. (Per Press Association) Wellington, This Day. Tbo Wellington rolls are almost completed. About 5000 names are on the suburbs, find 18,000 on the city. The former tnkes in the New-town end of the town, which formerly represented 1000 people. I The Premier left yesterday for Christchurch. DUNEDIN, NOV. 12. Mr Pinkerton addressed a meeting at the City Hall to-night. He defended tbe policy of the Government, and received a vote of thanks and confidence* Christchurch, Nov. 12. The Premier will gire an address at East Oxford on Monday night. Dr JeazuDgs bas been elected president of the National Association, iv place of W. Jacques, resigned.
