The Political Campaign.
(Per Press Association.) Auckland. Nov. 11. Mr Theo. Cooper has definitely declined to stand for the City. Mr Mitchelson has declined also to stand for the Git}' unless under a certain contingency. DuNF.niN, Nov. 11. Mr Scobie McKen/.ie addressed a largely attended meeting in the Garrison Hull to-night, and s^poks for two hours, •btaining an attentive hearing. He opposed religious instruction in school?, favored three-fifths majority on liquor quesiion, considered Banking legislation a blunder but acquitted till concern > d of suggestion of corruption. He criticised the Government administration, but expressed modified approval of much of the legislation, and quoted his own speeches to show he had acted in pnrt on Democratic principles. Ho condemned and ridiculed the elective Executive, and approved of the Referendum as a Court of Appeal from Parliament. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried on the voices amidst cheers. Haweba, This Day. C. E. Major, candidate for Hawera, addressed the electors last evening generally supporting the Govsrnment but disapproved of the Land for Settlement Act. He is a strong Anti-prohibi-tionist. He received a vote of thanks.
