A Notable Discovery.

(Per Press Association.) Berlin, November 8. A German expedition in New Guinea bas discovered a navigable river near Bismarck, running through a populated plain for 200 miles.

The finder of a pair of spectacles lost this morning will be rewarded on bringing same to Star office. A large crowd attended the memorial service held m tbe Army Barracks on on Sunday night. The service was of an impressive character and some ap propriate songs were sung by members of the Army and a number of addresses were given, among the speakers being Mrs Watts, wbo spoke on the life and death of her daughter, tbe late Mrs Moore. Quite a sensation was caused in Levin on Wednesday when it was made known that Mr Michael Travers, one of tbe County roadmen in tbe Wirokino Riding, had drawn The Skipper, the third horse in the Melbourne Cup, in Tattersall's pound sweep. The sweep being half filled means at least a clear £2000 for Mr Travers, who up to this last turn of fortune's wheel on Tuesday was a hardworking man, straggling like thousands of others to rear a large family.— Levin Express. For every quarter in a man's pocket there arc a dozen uses, and to use each one in such a way as to derive tho greatest benefit is a question everyone must solve for himself. We believe, however, that no better use could be made of one of these quarters tban to exchange it for a bottle of Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy, a medicine that every family should be provided with. For" sale by Farmers' Co-op. Association, Feilding. '
