Additions are made to the entries for Messrs Gorton and Son's Bulls sale. The committee of the Feilding Athletic Club will meet this evening. Monday next being a public holiday, the Feilding Star will not be published on that day. Alterations are now made in the dates of Messrs Murray, Roberts aud Co.'s wool sales at Wellington. Entries for Messrs Abraham and Williams' Palmerston sale are advertised to-day. Steps are being taken to form a brass band at Birmingham with Mr J. Curreen as bandmaster. Captain Edwin wired at noon today : -N. to W. and S.W. gale after 16 hours from now. Indications for rain. The 'Frisco mail will be sorted into private boxes by 4.80 p.m. to day counter delivery of letters from 4-45 to 5 p.m. A meeting of the supporters of Mr F. Y. Lethbridge will be held in Mr Bray's office this evening at 7.30 o'clock. Mr James Wood calls attention to his sale of pigs, horses, produce, etc., to-mor-row. For particulars see advertisement. It is understood the tender of Mr M. Enright, of Ashurst, has been accepted for carrying mails from Ashurst to Raumai and Pobangina. Although Mr Charles Bray (junr) has resigned his commission as Lieutenant in the Manchester Rifles we are informed he still remains a member and will continue to serve in the ranks. Mr W. J. B. Trewin received a telegram this morning stating that he has passed the annual examination at Canterbury Colleee, thus keeping a year's terms in connection with the New Zealand University. The agent of the Bank of New Zealand, Feilding, Mr E. F. Blundell, notifies that on and after Thursday the 12th inst., the Halcombe office of the Bank will open on Thursday afternoon in each week instead of Friday as heretofore. Notice is giveH to-day that at the next meeting of the Rangitikei Licensing Committee, Patrick Mcllroy, of Rangi^ wahia, will apply for a transfer of the license of the Rangiwahia Hotel to Jas. Gardiner Mitchell, his appointee. Mr J. Prior is solicitor for the applicant. Probably the largest and finest variety of cotton dress goods ever shown in Feildiug may now be inspected at John Cobbe's, be is showing charming designs in muslins both white and printed, choice sateems and crepons, together with prints in numerous qualities and colours. No fewer than 8841 shops in Liverpool are in the habit of doing business on Sun« day morning, exclusive of licensed pubhe bouses- A classification shows that grocers head the list with 355, followed by tobacconists with 285 ; milk dealers, 253 ; butchers, 248 ; barbers, 239 ; and confectioners, 224; tailors and cycle dealers bringing up the rear with three each. The following team have been select*ed to represent the Manchester Rifles in the match against the Marton Rifle Club at Feilding on Monday next, viz. : — Aitken, Barltrop, Parker, Say well, Scott Bray, and Wilson ; emergencies, Parker, J. Evans and T. Evans. Any of the above (including emergencies) who are unable to shoot will please advise the secretary early. Our Pemberton correspondent writes : — The settlers in this district are glad to hear that Mr Daw is not to be run off the road through losing the mail contract. I believe he is to continue running, carrying the mail as usuak Thig { is surprising as there was some talk a short time ago about someone carrying the mail for nothing, if only to run Mr Daw off. Talk, apparently is cheap. Evei' since the road has been opened Mr Daw has carried the mail through in spite of the roads, &ad is always very obliging and very rarely forgetg any message given to him. We fancy we recognised an erstwhile resident of Palmerston in the following paragraph from the Pabiatua Herald :— One of the candidates for the Pahiatua electorate, who also enjoys a wide reputation as a violinist, was thrown from his buggy last week owing to the kingbolt breaking.
