Q , , , The monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was commenced last ni»ht. Present Messrs Carson (chairman), Sanson, Ross, Robbias, Pirani, Baker, Hurle}\ Appointments. The following appointments were dealt with fn Committee : — Wangawhero — Mary Shortall was appointed. Colyton— Rebecca Mitchell appointed pupil teacher. Foxtou— Leonard Stansell appointed cadet. Marton—From E. Mcssman, re removal of Miss Mossman ; resolved that the Board sees no reason to alter its decision. From Miss L. Mossman, re sick leave ; granted. Waverley From committee, re Miss McMeckin's illness and from Miss McMeckin re sick leave ; resolved that two months sick leave be granted. From committee re delaying departure of Miss Caldwell ; resolved to send Miss Black as probationer. \ Kapuni— From E. J. Davis re absence, letter received. Brnnswick— From committee, re sewing mistress ; resolved that the Board does Dot appoint sewing teachers. Makino— From A. Sutherland, cadet, resigning ; resignation accepted. Manaia— From J. K. Law, re removal of Miss Crewhurst ; resolved that she remain. Moutoa — Resolved to send on certain names for vacancy. GENENAL BUSINESS. The Chairman reported Daniell and Short's tender of £147 15s had been accepted for the Taikorea school. Mr Pirani moved and Mr Sanson seconded, that the examinations for scholarships be held at Palmerston as well as Wanganui, and that the Inspector be instructed to make arrangements accordingly. The motion was lost, Messrs Pirani, Hurley and Sanson voting for it, and Messrs Carson, Bobbins, Ross and Baker against. Technical School Grants— Letter from department received re grants, and another recognising Mr Watkin as drawing teacher for Palmerston North. Kapuni— Mr Hurley reported on sanitary matters ; resolyed that bis action be endorsed. Samples—Letter from Mr Gilfillan, of Auckland, offering to forward samples of cornflour and starch, showing the process of manufacture, to any of the Board's schools on the application of the head teachers ; resolved that a circular be sent to teachers on the matter. Momohaki — From committee, re closing school ; agreed to. Eaponga —Resolved that the carpenter will be instructed to put up a shelter shed to the value of £14 on the committee undertaking to pay half cost. Letter re fencing wire referred to Mr Hurley. Rnahine — From committee, re fence ; held over for estimate of cost. Kakaramea — From committee, re drawing models ; resolved that a set be snpphed. Mangaweka — From committee, re fencing site; resolved that the Board will do the fencing, but that the adjoining owners must bear their share of the cost. The Board then adjourned until ten o'clock next morning.— Chronicle.
