The Gorge Bridge
The Manchester Road Jtoard meets on Saturday next when it is to be hoped that steps will be taken to arrange about the re-erection of&e Gorge, bridge. In the face of the statement by the Minister of Lands that he placed a vote on the estimates to enable him to negotiate with the lpoal bodies, there can be no reason for delay in commencing operations. If the preliminaries are hunried ob, and arrangements made to raise a loan of L6OOO to meet half the. eoah and the other half being provided by Government, there caa be no. obstacle to the worst part of tfco work, the erection of cylinders, lifting carried out beforo the winter seta in. There is no time to be lost, however, and we trust that those interested will sea that the bast use is made of the oppor* tunities available. — Standard.
