(Per Press Association.) Melbourne, This Day. Ifc is understood the Government will introduce a Bill to reduce the number of members in both Houses to 84. There is no improvement in the harvest outlook. Hot winds are doing great damage and indeed rain would now be of little use as everything appears to be beyond the improvement sta^e. It is daily more evident there will be a very light harvest. The Rowing Association has decided that cash cyclists cannot row as amateurs. Four clubs have receded from the Association iv consequence. A cable has been received from the British Committee of the London Mis--sionery Society stating that a donation of LIOOO has been received towards replacing the steamer Day Spring if the churches interested agree to build another vessel. Sydney, October 26. The Alamcda, which sailed today for San Francisco via Auckland, takes gold of the value of £425,000, including i' 125,000 from Melbourne, shipped by the Bank of Australasia, Union Bank, London Chartered Bank and English and Scottish Bank. Horart, This Day. Mr Kingston has cabled to the Pre mier suggesting that as Canada has appointed a third representative to the Pacific Cable Convention, Australia should do similarly ; and he recommends that Mr Playford be selected.
