Wellington Markets. ♦ John Holmes and Go. report undei date, Wellington, 23rd October :— Wool. — The closing of the Londot wool sales reached a level of prices wtib the preceding quarter, except in one oi two inferior lines. Reports from Auatra lian colonies show a brisk demand, and in Rome cases at figures corresponding with the Home market. Sheepskins. — There is no change to report on late rates and the demand continues firm. Quotations— Butchers green (early shorn), 4s 6d to 5s 6d ; extra prime, 6s ; medium to good, 3a 9d to 4s 8d; country dry (full wooled), s£d to Bd. Hides. — There is no quotable change in valnes which we repeat. Green ox, (butchers heavy), 16s to 17 ; cow Bs. Tallow.— Home market shows a slight weakness which is reflected locally. We quote prime mutton, £lo to £16 ; medium, jEl3losto £14 10; inferior, ±12 to £13. , , Wheat.— There is an improved demand for whole fowls wheat at last weeks quotation and we hope for a still further improvement. We repeat former price of 3s 5d to 3s 7d ex store, sacks extra. Oats.— Prices coincide with last week s quotations, but a better demand is shown. We quote for prime stout feed, 2s Id to 2s 2d extra wharf, sacks extra. Chaff.— Heavy stocks having arrived during the last week the demand is dull although price is maintained. Prime oatensheaf is worth 60s to 62s 6d ex wharf, sacks returned. Potatoes. — Demand fairly brisk for prime Derwents bnt a number of buyers are holding off for the new season's potatoes. We quote 72s 6d to 77s 6d ex wharf, sacks in. N.Z. Flax.— Enquiry continues for fair and good fair with a tendency to better prices. Fair fibre £9 to £9 15s f.o.b. Wellington. Eggs. —We solicit consignments of fresn eggs which are easily placed at the highest market prices. Public Works Appropnations. It is reported the Queen will invite all the rulers to meet in London to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of her reign.
