The Political Campaign.
I A political address was delivered at Pobangina by Mr J. G. Browne, a candidate for the Rangitikei seat. Mr A. A. Wagstaff was voted to the chair. Mr Brown announced himself as a Liberal and a warm supporter of the present Government. He defended the borrow* ing of the last few years, condemned much of the labor legislation and co-op- j erative works, favored small contracts and freehold tenure of land, opposed the Local Government Bill, wanted county chairmen elected direct by the ratepayers, pronounced Protection legalised robbery, called for civil service retrenchment, and considered prohibition suicidal, liked eld age pensions and free medical aid. In reply to questions, Mr Browne approved of the LIOO poll-tax on Chinese, considered members of the House were underpaid, and objected to any inter* ference with our education system. On the motion of Mr .Robinson, seconded by Mr T. Roberts, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the speaker. Mr Browne in returning thanks said he would take a week to consider whether he would be a candidate, and on his motion a vote of thanks was tendered to the Chairman. — Standard.
