" He Sat On a Rail."

(Per Press Association) Christchurch, Oct. 20. Mr Sannders, candidate for Selwyn, addressed a meeting of electors at Kirwee last night. He condemned the reversal of the non-borrowing self-reliant policy of the late Mr Ballance, and regretted there was not a strong economist in the House. He characterised the session of 1896 as the most useless and expensive that he had ever mci, the reason being that about 30 members had been pledged to support Mr Richard Seddon and not beneficial legislation. He condemned the recent banking enquiry as a waste of time. He defended Mr George Hutchison in the enquiry. He explained he had not supported the Opposition as he did not look upon them as economists. He received a vote of thanks and confidence.
