Tho Registrar of Patents this morning refused the application of the Cassels Company to amend the patent on the ground that it contained the essence of the invention and its insertion would extend the patent. Auckland. Oct. 12. Oliver J. Cromwell, aged 17 years, fell over the Chelsea wharf on Saturday aud was drowned. Solomons, arrested at Wellington, was remanded to the 20th inst. Bail was refused for two or three days to see if the four or five other persons who desired to lay informations in addition to Duncan E. Clark, will come forward. Christchurch, Oct. 12. Four months ago Mr Sefton, of New Brighton, applied for a patent for an improved cricket bat. To-day he re ceived a cash offer of 100,000 dollars (A' 20,000) for the American rights from a large manufacturing firm.
