The Manchester Rifles paraded last night, and, after the usual inspection by Sergt.-Major McMillan, the men were drillod by Color Sergt. Milson, bayonet exercise ; Sergt. Aitken, manual exercise ; Sergt. McMurray, physical drill ; Corporals Manns and Humphrey in the manual and firing exericses respectively. The shooting committee met after parade and selected teams to open the season with a friendly match on Wednesday, the 14th instant. Ammunition will be supplied on the ground, free of cost. Awahtjri v. 2nd Team. The following have been chosen to represent the teams in the above match : Awahuri.— Sergt. McMurray, Corpl. Mann, Vol. W. Menz, E. Bennett, D. Bennett, Stuart, smith. Emergencies — J. Bennett, G. Mtmz. 2nd Team. — Color-Sergt. Milson, Sgt. Petberick, Corp. Humphrey, Vols.Bense. man a, Isaac, McMillan. A. Wilson. Emergenceis — Vol. Gosling. Members of the 2nd Team are requested to turn up for practice to-night at 7 p.m. The scheme of Imperial defence upon which Mr Chamberlain has been engaged for some time will shortly be sent out to the colonies. It will be accompanied by a request to the colonies to furnish any comments they may think it necessary to make upon the scheme, and the criticism will appear as marginal notes. The whole scheme will then be laid before an Imperial Conference, to be held in June or July next year.
