Obituary.
The following extract is from the Kaikoora Star of the 29th ulto. :— The late Mr Maclean was xme of tba founders, and the first Mast* s r, of Lodge Kaikoura, so that directly the sad news of his death came to their, knowledge, and it being found that the remains were to be interred here, the ' Brethren of the Mystic Tie' resident in Kaikoura at once proceeded to take the necessary steps whereby Masonic funeral rites were accorded their departed Brother ; members attended in good number. The ceremony was conducted by Bro. Caleb Smith, P.M., and an ex-G.L. officer. The late Bro. Maclean was P.D.G.S.W. of the O.L. of Canterbury, E.C., a Jubilee honor conferred upon him as a distinguished Mason ; he was a splendid worker, his superb elocution being a noticeable feature. In his admirable eulogy, Mr Smith made apposite reference to the deceased as ' The Peacemaker ' — which he was, both in legal and private matters. The floral emblems of respect to the memory of the deceased were very numerous, and all of them exceedingly chaste. They were contributed by friends in Kaikoura, Feilding, Bulls and Wellington.
