Feilding School Committee.
The ordinary monthly meeting of tbe above committee was held last evening. Present— Messrs W Carthew (chairman), ! W. G. Haybittle (secretary), C. Bray, 1 junr., J. Gould, J. Wood, W. Spence, R. ' J. Thompson, Rev. A. Innes Jones. J The minutes of tbe previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was received from tbe 1 Wanganui Education Board, in reply to 1 the committee, stating that A. Haybittle i had been appointed cadet and Miss ' Mousley pupil teacher in the school ; i also, that the Board could not supply ] gravel ; also, that tbe police were not allowed to accept official appointments < as truant inspectors, but they were instructed to render all possible assistance in the enforcement of the Act. ' The headmaster reported that the ' attendance for the quarter ending Sep- i tember 30th was 330. He suggested < that it would be well for the additions '> to the school to be put in band immedi ately so that tenders may be called, timber seasoned, etc., and work carried i out during mid-summer holidays. The question of the appointment of : pupil teachers in the school was discussed, the committee criticising the action of the Board in not acceding to their request to appoint Watts a pupil teacher in the school. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Goodbehere, seconded by Mr Thompson, 1 That the Board be again written to and , tbat they be asked for an explanation as ( to why Watts was not appointed a pupil j teacher, and that a request be made , that his name be placed on the list to , fill the first vacancy occurring in the j school. , Messrs Wood and Tbompson were ap- \ pointed a visiting committee for the 1 ensuing month. j Resolved, on the motion of Mr Good- , behere, seconded by Mr Gould, Tbat tbe ] chairman write to the Education Board , urging on them the necessity of calling j for tenders for the additions to the , school in order tbat tbey may be com- \ pleted during the holidays. Resolved, on the motion of the Rev. ; Innes Jones, seconded by Mr Bray, That : the headmaster bo invited to get up an , entertainment in aid of the prize and \ picnic fund. — Carried.
