The Feilding Star, Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette Published Daily. WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 30, 1896. PETTY THEFTS.
» Every day complaints are made to uj of petty thefts committed in Feilding Whether the victims report, theii losses to the police, we do not know bnt we bave an impression that in a large majority of instances people seem to prefer to put up with the cvi 1 rather than undertake the trouble and worry of prosecution. This is not as it should be. No matter how small the article stolen, or how valueless, the " guardians of the peace " should be informed at once. If this were done we feel assured that in a verj short time the guilty persons would bf hunted down and driven from the place. Witbin the last month robberies have been committed of clocks, firewood, sawn timber, lamps, poultry, shrubs and flowers from the cemetery, door mats, foot mats, jacks, bicycles, and many other articles have been annexed with impunity. This is » direct tax on the whole community tc which they have no right to submit. We were aware that tbe police art doing all they can to discover the offenders, but unless tbey are openly and vigorously assisted by the public they can accomplish little or nothing.
