Nothing, however, tras further from my mind when pleading guilty to the charge. My plea was misconstrued to mean an admission of the offence of stealing, when, as a matter of fact, my intention was that the plea should only extend to an admission of altering earmarks, but without any felonionß intent. From the evidence given in the Police Court at Feilding, and from the admissions of experts in the mustering and branding of sheep, it is an undoubted fact that errors may be made. It is on record that many persons who aw, above suspicion have accideotiy earmarked sheep the property of their neighbours. I shall b c glad, sir, if you will insert this letter in your paper in justification of myself., who am innocent of the charge of which I was convicted, and wish pub'iicly to protest against my plea being co nstrued to mean an admission of the ff jilt of theft.
