On the motion of Mr Goodbehere, the balance sheet was adopted. The question of raising the annual subscription was then discussed, the Chairman explaining in reply to questions that the cost of maintaining the green would be about £70 a year ; also that they required a pavilion and that if the subscriptions were raised they would be enabled to pay off some of the debentures each year. After further discussion, Mr Sandilands moved that the members of the club be divided into two classes, to be called town and country members respectively; that a town member be a member who resides within a radius of five miles of Manchester square ; and that the annual subscription be 31y 6d for town and 21a for country members. Mr J. H. Stevens seconded the motion, which was carried. A letter was received from the Northern Bowling Association expressing pleasure at this club joining the Association and that it was liliely to compete in the tournament to be held m January ; tbat this club would require to appoint a representative on the Association. A letter was read from the Palmerston Bowling Club, stating that as this club had decided to open ice green on Wednesday, October 7th, their club had decided to open on the following Wednesday. Mr Yates wrote enclosing the trophy won by Mr G. H. Saywell last season, also, silver badges to be competed for between members of the Feilding, Palmerston and Wanganui Clubs. The Mayor then presented Mr Saywell with the medal won by him. Votes of thanks were accorded to Mr Yates for the handsome trophies presented by him and for the valuable assistance he had rendered to the club last year ; also, to those who had donated trees for planting on the green ; also, to the retiring officers of the club, and the secretary for past services. Nine new members were elected, viz. : — Messrs D. P. Buchanan, J. Yates, G. B. Heally, J. McNeill, E. F. Blundell, T. Watson, J. Wylie and J. T. Bray. The election of officers resulted as follows :— President, Mr W. A. L. Bailey ; vice-president, Mr W. A. Sandilands ; Treasurer, Mr E. Goodbehere; secretary, Mr H. L. Sherwill ; committee, Messrs P. Thomson, A. R. Cortia, W. G. Haybittle, W. Dickson, J. McLaren, W. Light, C. Bray, senr., J. Scott, and W. Carthew. Resolved, That the question of club colors be left in the hands of the committee ; also, the appointment of a delegate to the Northern Bowling Association. The Chairman stated, with reference to the debenture forms, it would be necessary to have these altered, as at present they would take precedence over a new mortgage in the event of their requiring to renew the mortgage at the expiration of the present one, and this would place them iv an awkward position. It would bG necessary to raise another £50 or £60 by loan to cover present liabilities. Resolved, on the motion ot Mr Sandilands and seconded by Mr Bray, That the committee be empowered to raise an additional £60 by way of loan. It was resolved that it be an instruction to the committee to raise this loan by way of debentures, if possible. It was decided to leave the question of the caretaker's remuneration in the hands of the committee. A motion by Mr Stevens, and seconded by Dr Johnston, That ladies be admitted as members of the club was negatived. A special meeting was then held to consider two motions by Mr W. A. L. Bailey, and seconded by Mr Haybittle, (1) That the Feilding Bowling Club be incorporated under "The Unclassified Societies Registration Act, 1895," by the style and title of ' The Feilding Bowling Club'; and, tbat in the event of the Club being registered under " The Unclassified Societies Registration Act, 1895," the General Committee be empowered to frame such additional rules as they may think necessary to carry out and conduct and manage the affairs and property of the Club. Considerable discussion followed. It was pointed out that in the event of the Club being registered under the " Unclassified Societies Act, 1895," no member would be able to do work for the Club for which he would be paid. One clause reads — " If any member of any Society incorporated under this Act derives any pecuniary gain except as a salaried officer from any of the property or operations of the corporation, he is liable to a penalty not exceeding £10, and the gains so derived shall be deemed to be the property of the society." It was further pointed out that all the Wellington Bowling Clubs were registered under the Joint Stock Act, which was found to work satisfactorily and the interests of members fully conserved. The present system of trusteeship was generally condemned as being unworkable and inconvenient. Eventually Dr Johnston proposed, and Mr Carthew seconded, That this matter be held in abeyance until a special general meeting of the Club is called for further consideration of the proposal. — Carried. The meeting then terminated with the usual vote of thanks to the chairman. _____^___-___»««
