To Stand this season in the Feuding and Hangitikri Districts, The Thoroughbred Horse, HANDSOME JACK (Foaled 1890). HANDSOME JACK is a six*year> old, stoutly-built bay horse, standing 15 bandr 2^ inches high. As his name indicates, he is a handsome horse, and so fashionably bred that he is well worthy the attention of breeders. The stoutest strains of the English and colonial thoronghbred blood is blended in this horse's pediaroe. It would appear almost uanecessary to refer further than to his tabulated pedigree under « mentioned, but the family he has de scended from are so rich in winning blood that the owner may be pardoned for just mentioning a few facts perhaps not gen* erally knowu, Handsome Jack is by St. Leger (the well-known winner-producing sire), whose stock have won in New Zealand since the season 1895 6, eighty -one races, valued at £21,672. Radiant, who never raced, is by that ! stoutly-bred sire Robinson Crusoe, whose I mates are so highly thought of by Australian breeders, and as Radiant is from Radiance, this makes the dam of Handsome Jack fall sister to those fast horses Quadrant and (Jruiser (sire of the Bangi tikei bred Lorelei). Robinson (Jrusoe (sire of Radiant) is full brother to that stud gem Onyx (dam of Nordenfeldt), and Radiance (dam of Radiant) is by Fire* works (sire of The Mute, who is sire of the Grand National Steeplechase winner, Mutiny, and the Grand National Hurdle Race winner, Dummy, this year), while Sunshine (dam of Radiance;, is also dam of Sunrise, a very successful stallion in New South Wales. A glance at St. Hippo's pedigree, who is considered by good judges to be one of the best horses seen in New Zealand of late years, will show that Handsome Jack has really a better pedigreff, as he shows the valuable strain of Maribyrnong blood, which is absent from St. Hippo's pedigree Both horses are closely related on blood lines. HANDSOME JACK'S full brother, Lustre, won the Punedin Selling Race, 100 soys, also the Dunedin Federal fctakes of 200 soys, 6 furlongs, 7 0, in 1.18, beating Saracen, Bay Bell, Kulnine, Whakawacea, and Pique. Breeders must come to the conclusion, ter a perusal of the above particulars, that they are fortunate in having so highly a bred young horse, and one so closely related to all the best and most valuable strains of bio od to be found in Australasia.
