(Per Press Association.) Wellington, Sept. 1. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 j p.m. I The Married Persons Summary Separation Bill and the Infant Life Protection Bill, were read a third time and passed. In committee on the Asiatic Restriction Bill (No. 2) on the motion of the Hon Mr Williams, the Chinese ministers and teaciiers of the Christian religion duly accredited were allowed to be naturalised, and were exempted from the operations of the Bill. A proviso was added on the motion of the Hon. Mr Bowen, that the statute shoald not apply to tho Chinese, who prior to September Ist, 1896, had applied to the Colonial Secretary to be naturalised. A sub-section, providing that letters of naturalisation issued under the Aliens Act Amendr^.ent Bill, 1892, should bear a photograph of the applicant for naturalisation or an impress, of his thumb, or should be otherwise marked so as to ensure his identification, was struck out on the motion of the Hon. Mr Shrimski by 16 to 14. The Bill was then re ported with amendments. The Photograph Copy-right Bill and Canterbury College Bili were read a second time. The Council adjourned at 5 p.m.
