(Per Press Association.^ London, August 31. The Australians began the match at, Scarborough to-day against a strong team got together by C. J. Thornton, composed of L. Palairot, E. Smith, Jacksou, Capt. Wynyard, Sir T. O'Brien. Peel, Davidson, Storer. Brown, Tunnicliffe, aud J. T. Hearnc. Eady, Johns, aud Graham, stand out of the Colonial eleven. The attendance is very large, and the weather fine, but the wicket if) slow, owing to the recent rains. The Home team won the toss and went in first, losing one wicket for 189, Palairet 71, Jacksou not out 60. Sydney, Tbis Day. j So far no reply bas baon received from j Musgrovc, or other members of tbe Australian eleven, to whom cables were sent. Mr Gibson, Chairman of the Cricket Council, who has full power of action, is in favor of their perpetual dis qualification, but the Associations of theKeveral colonies aro rather apathetic in their support of tbe Council. That of New Smith Wales is most emphatic, but even here there are signs of weakness.
