Feilding Harmonic Society Concert.
The first concert of the above Society's third season was held in the Assembly : Rooms last evening, when there was a ■ vory good attendance. The entertainment opened with the selection " Gemma di Vergy " by a strong orchestra conducted by Mr Dumaresq. This was followed by the glee " Awake, jEolian Lyre," by the cboir. Mr A. Jack sang " The Bedouin Love Song," which was well rendered and deservedly encored, "I Fear No Foe" being given in response. This was Mr Jack's first appearance before a Feilding audience, and judging from his rendition of both sougs should become a favorite with them, as lie possesses a very pleasant voice. Mr Ganter gave as a pianoforte solo a Mazurka of his own composition and this being encored he played Mendelshon'a " Spring Song " ; in the second part he gave " Mazurka No. 4," and received a double encore, giving " Paderewski's Minuet," and on being recalled for the third time gave " Schergo," by Wollenhaupt. Mr Gunter's masterly rendition of these pianoforte solos was loudly applauded and he certainly scored a brilliant success. Mrs W. Dickson sang the pretty solo " Love's Request," and had to repeat a vorse as an encore. Mrs Dickson sang with both taste and feeling. " Capriccio Allegro" was given as an instrumental duct by Messrs Dumaresq (violin) and Gunter (piano) and went very well. The glee " Where Art Thou, Beam of Light " concluded the first part of the programme, the second part being opened with the selection ll Stradella " by the orchestra. As usual, Miss Diamond was well received in her rendition of the song " Alia Stella Confidanti," her fine, clear voice being heard to great advantage and she had to respond to an encore with " Lovetide." The glee, " The Parting Kiss," although a most difficult piece, was very nicely rendered by the Society and was much appreciated by the audience. Mr Toner was, also, very successful with the song " Beauties' Eyes." He was loudly applauded and encored, responding with "In the Days of Yore. " " Hungarian Dances, Nos. 10 and 12 " were given as a violin solo by Mr Dumaresq who, also, was recalled, when he gave " Hungarian dance, No. 6," both of which .were exceptionally well played. Tbe octette " Sleep, Gentle Lady " by Mrs Macarthur, Misses Curtis, Diamond and E. Roe, and Messrs J. Greenwood, Diamond, Johnston and Jupp brought a first-class programme to a close. Mr i Dumaresq conducted, and the accom- j paniments were played by Mr Gunter, Miss Giesen and Mrs Holmes. The I concert afforded a very pleasant even- J ing's amusement and the members of the Feilding Harmonic Society are to bo congratulated on the high stage of profi j ciency they have attained.
