NEW ZEALAND v. QUEENSLAND. i (Per Press Association). Wellington, August 15. The football match, New Zealand v. Queensland, was played this afternoon in drenching rain, which continued the whole afternoon without intermission. The ground was in a wretched state, there being great pools of water all over the field. New Zealand won the toss, and played with a strong wind behind them, Queensland fairly well held their own for the first portion of the spell, ! but eventually both Kerr and Pauling scored tries, but the attempt to increase the scores were fairly out of the question owing to the state of the ground. On changing ends Queensland, notwithstanding that Surman aud Watson (Wairarapa), bad left the field owing to injuries, which left New Zealand with only 13 men, had all the worst of the game, and MoKenzie registered the third try, which was not converted. There was no further score, and the game ended New Zealand 9 points, Queensland nil. Ihe attendance was about 1,200, including a number of ladies. In the football match Tauranga v. Auckland on Saturday the former were defeated by 33 points to o. The Manawatu Union v. Orona Union, was played at Palmerston on Saturday, and resulted in a win for the former by oto 3. The game was well contested throughout, but the very wet condition of the ground effectually prevented any attempt at football, the game resolving itself into a series of packed scrams. The ball was very greasy and it was almost impossible to hold it. Both teams played with substitutes. Qroua showed very flood form and should give a good account of themselves with regular practice. In the first spel) Keeling scored a try for Manawatu, and in tho second spell Shannon aud Perrin each scored a try, while Craig scored a try tor Oroua. None pf the tries were converted. In the second spell F. Barlow got away with the ball and passed the Manawatu backs but over-ran it in a pool of water. Mr G. W, Mitchell acted as referee. Awahuri defeated Colyton on Saturday by 21 points to nil. The latter team played •with eleven men.
