<Per Press Association) Auckland, August 13. Chas. J. Madigan. formerly a prominent footballer died to-day of consumption. lie was a member of the New Zealand team which went to England in 1888. Tbe carpenters nnd builders at Waihi have determined to obtain a higher ratt of wages than hitherto. At a meeting hold it was resolved all present should bind themselves to work for not less than 10s per day as this was only a penny per hour more than carpenters are receiving in Auckland. It was resolved the increase take place forthwith. Wellington, This Day. A smart shock of earthquake accompanied by a more than usually loud rumbling occurred at 1.20 a.m. It was raining and blowing at the time.
