It is said that Dr Newman will contest the Otaki seat. The Rev. L. M. leitt will lecture in the Volunteer Hall this eyening. Messrs Gorton and Son will hold a sale of stock at Feilding to-morrow. A printer's error in the Art Social advertisement (on Tuesday next) gave the hour of opening as 1 p.m. It should have been 7 p.m. Captain Edwin telegraphs : N. to W. and S.W. gale, with rain ; glass further fall, but will rise after twelve hours from now. Onr Pohangina correspondent wired yesterday : — At the inquest on Shadbolt held to-day, a verdict of accidental death was returned. Yesterday afternoon Mr J. R. Montague held a successful sale, on behalf of the D.0.A., iv the bankrupt estate of D. Ross, of stock-in-trade, &c, the billiard table being sold for i'6o. Mr C. Carr held a sale of fche livery stable plant, horses, &c, ou behalf of L. H. Goldfinch, yesterday. There was a very large attendance, and on the whole the prices realised were satisfactory. Tenders for the erection of offices and grain stores, <!tc.. for Messrs Barraud aud Abraham, for which Mr L. G. West is the architect, will close on Monday, 17th inst., not Saturday, 15th, as advertised. There was a hit of shuflliug of feet in the Masterton District Court the other day. The constable was requested to keep silence. He did so by exclaiming in I a loud voice, " Owld yer touguo there I wid yer feet." The Feilding Harmouic Society will meet at 7.80 this evening, in the Foresters' Hall, for practice in preparation for the forthcoming concert. Those taking part in the octette will meet half an hour earlier. All members arc requested to be punctual. Owing to the revival in trade at Home, and the increased cost of raw material, it is likely that most textile fabrics \vi!J be higher in price during the coming season, therefore all economists should take advantage of this opportunity, and have in a supply at the present unusually low prices, The following are the boundaries of the new Wanganui district; :— They run two miles beyond Maxwclltown north to the Kai Iwi stream ; thence along the northern boundary of the Brunswick riding to the Wangauni river, crossing about four miles north of L'pokougaro ; thence to the north- cast corner of the Mataongaouga riding ; thence, including Fordell South, to the Wangaehu river aud to the sea. A remarkable take of fish was made last Friday night from the boats of Mr W. Hurcomb, when working on the Terawhiti side of Island Bay. There were in it sixteen different kinds of fish, five of which Mr Hurcomb is unable to identify, though be has been in the business some twenty-seven years. Prominent among them was a fine fish having some resemblance to both the mountain brown trout and the butter fish. — Wanganui Herald. Who will say Feilding ladies are not politically educated ? — At a recent meeting of ladies to make provision for an approaching ceremony it was agreed to charge Is 6d for admission. The general committee of gentlemen, for various reasons, afterwards lowered this charge to Is, whereupon the ladies vigorously protested. The unfortunate who was entrusted with the delicate task of smoothing matters,' said " You know, ladies, it is constitutional for the ' Lords' to amend a Bill."
