Assault on Mr Jellicoe.

[Per Press Association^ Wellington, August 10. Mr E. J. Jellicoe, solicitor, was the victim of a cowardly assault to-night. About 9 o'clock he was proceeding to I his residence, which is situated in a | rather lonely spot, when suddenly a | man who had been walking behind him, struck him on the head with a stick knocking him down. The assailant then made off. The police are searching the neighbourhood. Mr Jellicoe states the man was an Irishman, and in delivering the blow said, " Damn you, take that." Mr Jellicoe was a witness in Dr Cahill's | case and the assault is attributed in some way to that.
