Ashurst Notes.
The meeting of the; Aslmrst Progressive Association was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening last. Messrs Rumble (chairman), Gallichan, Hutching, Vincent, Furness, Sanders, Read, Piercy, Williams. Whyte, Rimmer, Freeman, and Taylor being present. The report of the deputation (Messrs Sanders and Gilhchan) which waited upon the Manchester Road Board, was adopted. The deputation appointed to wait upon Mr Warne reported that he (Mr Warne) could not sco his way clear to take less than £12 per acre for the land required for a road. It was decided to draw up petitions with reference to the Magistrate's Court sittings at Ashurst ; also asking for two addition mail services daily. It was resolved, that Messrs Rumble and Taylor be a sub-committee to ascertain what funds are available to complete the mettalling of that portion of the raad iq front of Mr Trass's road. The monthly meeting of the School Committee was held on Wednesday evening last. Present — Messrs Maunder (chairman), Rumble, Sanders, Searle, Piercy, and McCool. The master's report, which was adopted, shows the average attendance — 88- 1 boys, 842 , girls, or a total of 1723, with 201 names upon the roll. Jt was resolved, That the , secretary write to Mr Goodhebere, offering to complete purchase of bis section ; at ±'15 on or before Ducomber :Ust, 1896 ; - I also requesting permission to erect a fence alongside the right of way in tbje 1 meantime. ; ! A wedding took place on Wednesday i atteruoon, when Misr Gertnde Potts was united in rqasrimpny to Mr Thomas ( i Wilson. The ceremony was performed ( , in St. Mary's Church, the Rev, Mr Young '. of Palmerston officiating. - Standard. ,
