Christchurch Slander Case.

(Per Press Association.) Gkkistchurch, August 3. A largcly-attouded meeting to discuss | the verdict in the recent siander case, Popham v. Taylor, was held tonight. It was announced that the money taken for admission, which was by silver coin, would be devoted towards defraying the vt-rdicfc and costs in the action, and promises of help were invited from the audience with the same obiect. Several addresses were give a, and Mr Taylor, in the course of his remarks, accused the Judge of irritability and interrupting his (Mr Taylors) counsel. Hedeclaimed against special juries, and claimed the result as a moral victory for the Prohibition party. It was resolved, oil the motion of the Rev. J. Hosking, that the meeting whilst protesting against the verdict as being directly against the weight of evidence, assures Mr Taylor of continued support and sympathy as leader of the Prohibition movement.
