(Per Press Association). Oamaku. August 2. A man named John Todd, living at Ngapara, bad the top of his head blown oif in a gun accident this morning. Death was instantaneous. Auckland, August 3. The six-roomed residence of Richard Hodge, cabinetmaker, Vincent Lane, was burned clown early this morning. Nothing was saved. The house was insured for £10 in the South British and the furniture for £150 in the North German. Constable Donovan received a telegram from Ktiaotuna to the effect that the missing man, Richard Gillet, had turned up there. A middle aged man named James was found on Sunday morning, dead, under the verandah of Messrs Dick Bras', store, Waihi, He had been drinking on Saturday night and had laid on the road in the oold all night. Thos. Hobson, for many years foreman for the Auckland Timber Company has died suddenly. At the Police Court, Mary De Thiery, a middle-aged woman, charged with having been n party as landlord to the continued use of certain premises in Mills Lane as a brothel, was lined with £2 9s costs, the alternative being three months' imprisonment. Duxedin, August 3. The Golden Bench Company, near Clyde, scraped up 14ojis of gold from the rock bottom of a small paddock sluiced away, making a total of OGiozs of gold for 15 days' sluicing. Napier, August 3. Mary Anderson, mother of the child found dead in a closet at Petane, has been committed for trial on a charge of concealment <?f birtb. At the annual meefciug of the National Association to-night the report was of a very favourable character. A ladies' committee was appointed. A five-roomed honse owned by Mrs Mary Kemp, at Hastings, was destroyed by fire on Saturday night. The insurance is unknown. Incendiarism is susnected,
