Mr George Stewart, late of Fortrose, who was compelled to take refuge in a tree for 36 bours duriug the late floods, died in the Southland Hospital on Saturday afternoon, death being due to blood poisoning following frost bite. On Thursday last Mr D. Wilson, of Colyton, and Miss Rudd, of Cbristchurcb were united in the bonds of matrimony, the ceremony being performed at the residence of Mr W. F. Bramwell, of Feilding, by the Rev C. C. Harrison. Mr James Trewin has a replace advertisement in to day by which he very properly claims that he sells only tlie very best articles at tbe Public Benefit Warehouse, Kimbolton road, Feilding. In order to avoid the odious LSO commercial travellers' tax in New Zealand it is proposed in Melbourne to charter a special steamer once a year, run over to New Zealand, collect the buyers there bring them to Victoria, keep them for a few weeks, serve them with the goods required, send them home after a good outing, and all at a cost of less than half the tax.— Staedard. On Wednesday, the 12th instant, Mr Carr will sell by public auction, without reserve, at the stables of Mr Goldfinch, Feilding, tbe whole of the livery plant of that well known establishment. The coaches, buggies, vehicles, harness, etc., are all in first-class order and this affords a splendid opportunity for livery stable keepers and settlers supplying their requirements in that direction. Messrs Abraham and Willams report : — At our horse sale on Saturday the Maori horses offered were of the usual stamp. Bidding was moderate and prices up to previous sales. Apropos of tbe interesting comparison between Jersey and Ayrshire cows as shown by the Babcock tester, in our issue of a few days ago, We learn that a supplier to the Colyton branch of the Cheltenham Factory who has spent some years breeding a herd of grade Jersey cows came out with a test of 5-1 for his June account. As this supplier has invariably had the highest test since the factory started, it is a strong point in favor of the Jersey as a paying breed.
