** (Per Press Association I Chbistchurch, July 29. There were small entries at the Addington market today. The attendance was below the average, but business all round was fairly good. We quote : — Fat Cattle— lso bead yarded ; butchers were apparently in want of supplies, aud bidding was fairly brisk. Prime steer beef sold at quite up to 20s per 1001 b; secondary lots and fair heifer, from 16s to 18s, whilst 14s to 15s 6d about represented the price paid for cow and inferior sorts. Steers ran from £:> to £8 ss ; beifors, £4 15s to £5 12s 6 1 ; cows, £3 10s to £6 10s. Dairy Cows— Dairy cattle were fairly represented as to quality, and met a very limited demand. Medium cows aud springers sold at from £5 to £1 10 a ; inferior sorts from £2 to .£4 10s. Fat Sheep— The small entry included some sheep of exceptional quality, -which met very keen competition. The short supply caused great demand for crossbred ewes and merinos of both sexes, and values showed distinct advances. Good freezing wethers brought 16s to 18s 6d, and up to 20s 6d for extra prime ; lighter sorts, 14s to 15s 6d ; good fat ewes, 12s 6d to 14s 3d ; medium, 10s 6d to 12s; aged and inferior, 8s to 10s; merino wethers, I's to 9s sd, and up to li3s 4d and 14s 9d for extra prime ; merino ewes, 9s to 9s 2d. Store Sheep - Store sheep were represented by a few really good forward turnip wethers, with some fair lines of breeding ewes, and the usual quantity of lambs. The sale was good for all classes, turnip wethers bringing up to 14s 4d ; do wethers and maiden ewes, lfJs 3d to 13s 7d ; good young ewes in lamb, 12s to 13s 6d, and aged do, 8s lOd to 10s ; good healthy lambs, 9s 9d to lla lid, and medium and interior sorts, 7s 9d to 9s. Pigs — Average yarding contained some good lines of baconers and porkers, and all were cleared at from 3£d to 3^d per lb. Messrs Abraham and|Wj'liarn9 report : — Our business during the week has been limited to the Palmerston sale of yesterday. A small entry of cattle came forward — a pen of Syr old bullocks that made L 4 15s being about the only transaction. Sheep below average numbers were dull of sale under the hammer, though the bulk were afterwards quitted. The quality was generally second rate, and which doubtless warranted the enert tone of would be buyers. Hoggets sold briskly. Bleeding ewes in lamb 4 and 6-tooth, fair quality 10s to 103 2d ; others, 7s 3d to 9s 6d ; store ewes, 6s 3d to 9a 2d ; hoggets 8s 7d ; smaller, 5s 9d to 6s.
