Concert at Makino.
A concert was held in the Makino schoolhouse last evening, in connection with the Primitive Methodist Church, and, notwithstanding the threatening state of the weather, the building was well filled, some of the visitors having travelled long distances to be present. A good programme was provided, for which a meed of praise is due to the Rev. Mr Cocker, who had to work under somewhat adverse circumstances to get it up. Most of the performers journeyed from Feilding, and it must have been very gratifying to each and all of them for the way in which their various items were received by the audience, the applause being v«ry hearty. Following is the programme: — Organ solo, Miss £. Hamilton ; nongs, " Absalom," and " Landing of the Pilgrim Fathers," Mrs Reader ; gongs, " Mona " and " Piggyback Ride " (encored), Miss A. Gould ; recitation, " Edinburgh after Flodden," Mr Jos. Gould ; duet, "Won't 'you Buy my Pretty Flowers " (encored;, Misses Terry ; recitations, " Whistling in Heaven " and " Trouble in the Amen Corner," Miss M. E. Heald ; song, " The Holy City," Miss Sissey Baker ; recitation, "Charge of the Light Brigade," Mr Trewin ; song, " Ora Pro Nobis," Miss Hamilton. The accompaniments were played by Misses Gould and Ham- j ilton. Another item worthy of mention was the coffee supper which was provided at the close of the entertainment, and after having done justice to this the gathering dispersed, having, apparently, thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
