Fieilding and Rongotea Debating Societies.

On Monday evening next a public debate will be beld in the Rongotea Temperance Hall between the above societies. The subject selected is, " That national co operation is preferable to our present system of individual competition," the Rongotea society to open in the affirmative and the Feilding society to oppose. The debate will be decided by points, judgment to be given | on the merits of the question, each speaker to be allowed a maximum of 5 points for style and 5 for arguments i each judge to award points independeutly until the close, when they will be added together ; one judge to be chosen by each society, the judges to select a referee if necessary ; the time to be allowed is 15 minutes for opener and opposer, 10 minutes each for subsequent speakers, and for the replies of opener and opposer. The debate will start at 7.30. The Rev. G. S. Harper will act as judge on behalf of the Rongotea society, and Mr H. L. Sherwill will act in a Similar capacity for Feilding. Feilding will be represented by Messrs T. Watson, J. G. Cobbe, J. H. Stevens, F. F. Haggitt, and T. West, who will speak in the order named. ,_„... . _„.
