The American Presidency.

(Per Press Association.) New York, July 11. The Chicago Convention has, by 446 to 105, nominated Bryan against Bland for tbe Presidency. Bryan is a lawyer of Nebraska, and is known as a boy orator, though not known in the Eastern States. His nomination caused universal surprise, ast it was quite unexpected. The Republican silverites endorse the nomination. Many Democratic journals repudiate Bryan's platform. Smalley, journalist, declared that the nomination was the result of impulse, and likens himself to Peter the Hermit,' aod the silver craze to the Crusades. His speech in support of the Populist Party caused mild excitement in the Convention. He and five others nominated. No gold representatives were present. Washington, July 12. The American gold reserve has fallen nearly 1,000,000 dollars. The Democrats have nominated Semel of Maine for the vice- Presidency.
