Awahuri Notes.

[from oub own coebespondknt. I On Saturday evening, after tbe football match, some one was kind enongh to " crib " a case of schbapps from Mr O'Reilly's hotel. Evidently the whole case was more than they could manage, as the box (with four bottles in it) was afterwards found in a ditch along the Feilding road. But this is considered to be only a blind, as there is strong suspicion on a certain party, but there are other roads to travel leading from the hotel, besides the Feilding one. We hope the police will soon bring tbe delinquent to justice. A meeting was held in tbe Endymion Hotel on Saturday night to see if it wa9 possible to form a brass band here. Messrs Wilson Bros., formerly of the Ashurst band, gave all necesssary information and particulars. Those who intend to become members handed their names in, and there is every probability of a strong band being formed, as more than the required number of members have been obtained. There is going to be a rare struggle for the big drum, one candidate reckoning to buy it himself if he cannot get it otherwise. The Awaburi Assembly held their first gathering on Friday night, and, notwithstanding tbe dreadful weather, a large nnmber rolled up, and a very pleasant evening was spent. The far-famed Solomon supplied excellent music The assemblies are to be held every fortnight.
