Serious Collisions at Sea.
« _ (Per Press Association). London, July 12. Tbe steamer Woolloomoloo, from Sydney to London, collided with tbe collier Emerald in a dense fog, three miles north west of Casquet rocks in the English channel. The former had an immense hole knocked in her starboard side below water, and was towed into Cherbourgh anchorage. She took in so much water that she was down six feet by the bows, and her propeller was out of water. The vessel had to be beached to prevent her sinking. Tbe Emerald's bows were also stove in. Tbe passengers and crew were rescued. The warship Landrail sank the ship Lyren of Sydney, 25 miles off Portland. The crew were saved.
