Australian Sheep Sales.

(Per Press Association.) Sydney, July 9. The merino sales closed with high figures, 700 guineas being paid for an imported ram. A pure Vermont and 20 animals in the same consignment realised 2155 guineas. The longwool sale began in the afternoon. With a few exceptions the prices could only be considered fair. Lincolns were about the only class in demand, English Leicesters and Romneys practically friendless, while prices for Border Leicesters verged on the ridiculous. The highest price tor Lincolns, 60gs for a ram, was obtained by Mr Best, of Tasmania. The first New Zealand contribution to the sale was Mr Menlove's, Oamaru, his best price for stud Lincolns being 6gs. Sixty rams averaged Bgs, 4 ewes Bgs. The same breeder's English Leicesters were passed in without a bid. Some splendid animals from Tasmania of tbe same class averaged £1 Is. Mr Menlove's 2 Border ewes fetched 3gs each. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Palmeiaton N., sold 8 for 16gs. In Rotnuey Marsh Mr R. Cobb averaged £2 18s 6d for 2 rams, and £9 2s for 3 ewes. The other prices averaged were — Mr Walters, Carterton, l|gsfor 4 rams ; Mr Hopkins, Pohangina, 1 ewe at 4gs. The rams were passed in. Mr Matthews, Wairoaha, received £2 17s 8d for 30 rams. The sheep of Messrs Riddiford (Hutt), Mcßae (Nelson), Mungaroa (Porirua), Harkness (Nelson), Hopkins and Allen (Wairoaba), and Mr O'Brien (Parapanui), were held till tomorrow, when it is to be hoped buyers will be more appreciative. Mr Menlove sold 11 Shropshire rams at 3gs each.
