Wellington Markets.
Messrs A. G. Tame and Co. report of the Wellington stock, horse, wool and property markets for the week ending 9th July: Fat sheep— Wethers are hardening fast, and demand very keeu for good sheep ; heavy-weights have touched 14s locally, and medium, 12s to 13s ; fat ewes, firm, up to 11s 6d being paid ; store wethers, very scarce, not a line on our books ; buyers for any number ; quotations are only a guide, as we have no sales to report; good store wethere, 10s to 11s ; hoggets, very firm, sales 78 to 8s 9d ; five to 6s 6d inferior ; ewes in lamb, four and six-tooth, good demand, 9s 6d to 10s for good sheep ; f.m. ewes, 6s Gd to 7s 6d. Fat cattle - Beef in fair supply, so far no scarcity, owing to the abundance of feed ; bullock beef, 16s 6d to 17s ; cow beef, 13s to 14s. Pigs— Porkers, 18s to 245; baconers, 38s to 465. Sheepskins are not coming forward freely. Buyers are keen. Prices from ssd per lb for good dry skins, 4dfto 4£d for medium.
Palmerston Hospital Board- * The ordinary meeting of the above Board was held yesterday at the Board's offices. Present — Messrs Park (chairman), Harris, Ravenhill, Goodbehere, Booth, Hammond, Kendall, Taylor. Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows : — From Feiiding Borough Council, forwarding £64 8s 9d, amount of levy due. — Received. From Kiwitea County Council, forwarding application for £15 17s, amount of charitable aid expended to 30th June. — Passed for payment. From Manchester Road Board, applying for payment of £29 expended on charitable aid. — Statement returned to Beard for correction. From Town Clerk, Feiiding, with reference to the case of P. O'Brien, From Dr Wilson, stating that he had examined O'Brien, and that he would have to undergo an operation, and suggesting tnat he should be sent to Wellington hospital. — The matter was left in the hands of the secretary. From the Treasury, stating that £419 4s 8d had been placed to the credit of the Board at the Bank of New Zealand. The mptron reported as follows for the month of June : — Patients in hospital, 25 ; admitted during month, 17 ; dis charged : cured 11, relieved 5 ; unreliered 1 ; deaths, 3 ; patients in the hospital Ist July, 22. Mr Harris brought up the re-appoint-ment of the surgeons at the Hospital, contending that the appointments were for one year only and that at the end of that term fresh applications should be called. A resolution was passed on the motion of the Chairman, That Drs Wilson and Macintire be written to asking them if they are willing to continue as Hospital surgeons and if so to apply to next meeting.—Standard.
